Scratchpad for Mac

Catch every idea the moment you have it. Press ⌃⌥N in any app and start typing, get your reminders as Mac notifications, and never hunt through browser tabs for your notes again.

Download for Mac

Included with your Scratchpad account. macOS 13 Ventura or later, on Apple silicon and Intel.

Write it down before it’s gone.

Press ⌃⌥N in any app, in the middle of an email, a call, or a spreadsheet, and Scratchpad comes forward with a fresh note, ready to type. No tab to find, no page to load.

When Scratchpad is already in front, ⌘N starts a new note and ⌘, opens Settings, like any Mac app.

Reminders that actually reach you.

Set a reminder in any note, and right on time it arrives as a Mac notification, even with the window closed. Click it, and the note opens.

Turn on Open at Login, and Scratchpad is quietly there from the moment your Mac starts, so nothing slips by.

Your passkeys, all of them.

Scratchpad signs in through your browser, so the passkey you already use just works, from iCloud Keychain, Chrome, or a YubiKey.

Locked notes open the same way, with a matching code on both screens so you always know it’s you.

  • Made for the Mac

A Dock icon, a real menu bar, a window that remembers where you left it, and spell check in every note.

  • Always the latest

The app updates itself in the background, and new Scratchpad features arrive the day they ship.

  • Every note, everywhere

The same notes as on the web, your iPhone, and your other computers, kept in sync as you type.

Good questions.

Why does it open my browser to sign in?

Passkeys live in your browser or in iCloud Keychain, where a desktop app can't reach them. So the app hands the sign-in to your browser, where every passkey, Google, and your password work, and comes straight back signed in. Unlocking a note with a passkey works the same way. Nothing is shared with the app but the sign-in itself.

Does it work offline?

Not yet. Like the web app, it needs an internet connection to open and save your notes.

Does it cost extra?

No. The Mac app comes with every Scratchpad plan.

Is there a Windows version?

Not yet. On Windows, Scratchpad works in any browser, and Chrome and Edge can install it as an app from the address bar.

Is there a Linux version?

Yes. Scratchpad for Linux comes as an AppImage and a .deb, included with every plan.

Your notes, one keystroke away.
