How to get it
Tell us who you are, then show us you're a student in one of two ways: give us your school email address and click the link we send it, or upload a photo of your student card or a letter from your school. We check it by hand, and once you're approved your plan moves to the student price by itself. There's no code to type.

Who counts as a student?
Anyone aged 14 or over who's enrolled at a school, college, or university, anywhere in the world. High school counts.
How much is it?
25% off either plan, for as long as you're a student, up to five years. The AI-included plan is US$9 a month instead of US$12, or US$90 for the year instead of US$120. The own-key plan is US$6 a month instead of US$8, or US$60 for the year instead of US$80.
What's an AI key?
Scratchpad's assistant runs on an account with an AI company. On the AI-included plan it runs on ours, with 500 messages a month. An AI key, also called an API key, is a code from a company like Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google that lets it run on your own account with them instead. You make one on their website and paste it into Settings, they bill you for what you use, and Scratchpad sets no message limit. A ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini subscription isn't a key, because keys are billed separately. Not sure? Choose AI included. More about using your own key.
How long does it last?
For as long as you're a student, up to five years. Once a year, about 30 days before your year is up, we'll email to ask for this year's proof. Send it through this page and your discount carries on for another year.
What happens when I finish school?
If you don't send this year's proof, or after five years, your plan carries on at its regular price from its next renewal: US$12 or US$8 a month, or US$120 or US$80 a year. You can cancel whenever you like, and your notes stay yours either way.
I don't have a school email address.
That's fine. Upload a photo of your student card, or a letter or timetable from your school that shows you're enrolled this year.
What do you do with my proof?
We look at it once, to check that you're a student, and delete it as soon as we've reviewed it. Until then it's kept on our server, in a folder that's never backed up, where only we can see it and never at a public address. If we haven't got to it within 30 days, it's deleted anyway.
How does the price change?
By itself, with no code. If you're already paying, your plan moves to the student price the day you're approved, and the unused part of what you'd paid is refunded to your card. If you haven't started yet, sign up with the email address you gave us and the payment page shows the student price.
Can I share it?
No. It's for one student, on your own account.

You need to be at least 14 to use Scratchpad. If you're 14 to 17, a parent or guardian needs to agree to our terms with you and set up your plan.
Do teachers get the discount too?
Not right now, the discount is for students. But if you teach, email us and we'll see what we can do.
