Recordings and transcription
Record straight into a note, and get the words back as text you can search.
The microphone in a note's header records audio straight into it. Stop when you're done and the recording sits in the note as a player.

You can also drop in a sound file you already have, or add one with the
Image, audio or file row in the / menu. It arrives the same way.
Turning it into words
Press the transcribe button on the player. It's the one that says Transcribe this recording when you hover it, and it disappears once the recording has a transcript. While it works it turns into a stop button. Short recordings come back in a few seconds. Anything over a minute is handed to a worker that carries on even if you close the tab, and the words arrive in the note as they're ready.
The transcript is ordinary paragraphs, not something locked inside the player, so you can edit a name it got wrong, search it, and export it.
What a plan includes
Twenty hours of transcription a month on either paid plan. The count starts again when your month does, and Settings shows how much you've used.
If the words never arrive
A recording over a minute in a locked note is refused, rather than queued. The background worker never holds a note's key, so it couldn't write the words back in. Unlock the note first, then transcribe.
A recording whose length can't be read goes to the background worker instead of being transcribed on the spot, so it takes longer than you'd expect. If it fails outright, the recording itself is untouched and you can try again.
